This class is designed as the second part of a two semester algebra program. In this class, students learn the use of symbolic reasoning to represent mathematical situations and study relationships among quantities. It will also focus on the use of functions to represent and model problem situations, analyze and interpret relationships, as well as the setting up of equations in a wide range of situations. This will help students become more confident in their math abilities to be successful in future math courses. At the end of the year, students will be required by state to take the EOC (End-of-Course) exam which will count as 20% of a student’s final grade. ** The sequence of courses, Foundations in Algebra and Intermediate Algebra, meets the state Algebra 1 standards and will be recognized by South Carolina colleges as Algebra 1.
Review adding, subtracting, and multiplying polynomials. Also review all factoring methods (by grouping, trinomials, and difference of squares). Know the zero product property
All students take this test to see if they will qualify for dual credit (college credit as well as high school credit).
